PV Value needs to be fixed first

Posted By Garth

The concept has merit, but the flaw in PB Value will distort the result. For one thing, PBV overrates Relief Pitchers. Based on the PBV plan, I want to build a team with good Starting Pitching, and and a bench with strong role players and few extra PAs. Also, those slick fielding INN middle infielders have extra value.

In real time leagues, I also want injured players at the time the draft order is set. If its based on end-of-year PBV, I want to trade for Juan Gonzalez. (Which is totally anti-salary analogy.) If its based on PBV after the season starts, near to the draft, I should be looking for guys who are having off-season surgery -- I want slow starters.

As the trading deadline nears, trading gets weird. I currently have a sub 60 PBV team contending the Playoffs (so the PBV system would be great for me!). But at the deadline, the underperforming teams would want to trade their higher PB guys and I need them to get to the playoffs. So now how do you measure my success when I contended with 59 PBV until after the end of the MLB season, then traded up to 70 to make the playoffs?

Its a great idea, but it doesn't seem workable when you get to the details.
