I disagree....
Trading one star for three mediocre players is the absolute wrong answer in building a team.
You'll never win with eight mediocre players and four mediocre pitchers. You must have a few stars to win. (Not necessarily NAMES but GOOD STATS).
So I feel the best approach to rebuilding is to hold onto the stars.... Trade old stars for young stars if you can..... But trading Alex Rodriguez for four mediocre players is not going to help in the long run. You can pick up a couple mediocre players per year in the drafts.... but the stars you need are harder to come by so you should hold them.... don't trade young or middle aged stars for mediocre players if you want to win someday.
Now If you can trade Rodriguez for Jeter + Soriano + Glauss then thats another story.... Thats one super-duperstar for three stars (or future stars depending on your definitions).
