Interesting...

Still don't like him though ;p And I can't speak for Ted Williams, who I never witnessed playing, but to compare Barry's media savvy to that of Cal Ripken's is nothing too large. Cal also isn't media friendly. He hated the attention his record was setting.

To take it a bit further while I don't doubt Cal was a good player, it was still extremely disappointing that with all the amazing feats that have happened in baseball, baseball "fans" chose Cal breaking the record as the "Most Memorable" baseball moment in history.

Great... a guy who basically just showed up every day for work is the greatest thing ever to happen to baseball.

:lt&;SARC>Yes, that was much more important that say, Jackie Robinson breaking the colour barrier... and definitely more memorable than Bobby Bonds shot heard round the world. Also forget about Willie Mays' circus catch, Joe Carter's home run against the Phillies, or even about Roberto Clemente... because a guy who showed up every day and did his job, even when injured and hurting his team with a mendoza like average at times, is what baseball is all about.:lt&;/SARC>

If anything... it just goes to prove that baseball fans should not be allowed to vote for anything :)
