"THIS"

Posted By Elminster

"THIS" (no yelling intended) refers to the intentional insertion of a pitcher you *know* will not pitch in the upcoming game. This happened to me in a recent series, and the deliberateness (is this a word) had to be there because my opponent pitched the same lefthander 2 games in a row. The first game resulted in a RH replacement being used, the second the pitcher actually started. In any case, I get put to an immediate disadvantage (yes I know: CHECK the opponents usage page) in at least one of these games. If the pitcher in question were worn out (not uncommon this time of the season - 120+ games done), the disadvantage could have been two games. In a tight pennant race, this makes a world of difference.

I hope this explains my earlier post sufficiently. It just seems to be poor sportsmanship, like deliberately losing games to improve your draft status. In tight pennant races, if your opponent (in the pennant race) is playing a team intent on losing, you're *bleeped* in the race (probably/possibly), especially if you're playing another contender. In one of the leagues I'm in, a team has lost four out of five from day 1. That would seem to take the fun out of PB. Win or lose, I at least try to win.
