Don't forget absent managers
There is another situation in which the listed pitcher might not be used. I am a member of 5 different PB leagues and there are times when I ignore some or all of my teams.
My teams have done this sort of thing a couple of times, without my ever delibrately trying to do it. I set up my default rotation and line-ups, then wander off and ignore the team. In one case, game 5 of the previous series went extra innings and the robot brought in my #1 starter to finish out the game.
Of course this tired him out, and I can only assume that my rotation for the next week went right out the window, with the default lineup and starter displaying, then the robot finding out they are tired and pulling them.
Of course the easy way around this is to have the line-up page evaluate the availability of a particular starter BEFORE the home team submits a starter or line-up. Then it wouldn't be an issue in the first place.
As far as I know, no one has ever accused me of doing something like this deliberately, but keep in mind that it can be an accident.
