Replay Change Needed

Posted By Patrick

First, let me say I have sympathy for anyone who has tough luck during the playoffs...it is a bitter pill to take. The question of games crashing is a tough one. The policy as CURRENTLY WRITTEN in the manual says that games LATE IN THE SEASON OR DURING THE PLAYOFFS that crash result in an automatic loss for the home team (however, this is NOT what happens ALL the time based on personal experience). In my opinion that policy seems to imply that, more often than not, home managers who are losing are purposefully crashing games (just how, I'm not sure). I think that's not the case and ASSUME instead that the vast majority of owners play on the up-and-up and that crashes are mostly the result of a quirk in the program itself. Therefore, I think the policy on replays should be changed. The problem I have is when ONE PERSON decides subjectively to either allow replays or not. I propose that a PEER REVIEW panel of 3 or 5 owners is set up in the late part of the season and the playoffs to rule on individual cases of game crashes. This would take more effort than having Mike decide but I feel there are many owners out there who would gladly participate and it would give the owners who have the bad luck of a game crash a chance to have a replay based on consensus (2 out of 3 or 3 out of 5). The automatic loss should come during the first half of the season when individual games have less importance. Game crashes are supposed to be a rare event, I usually have maybe 2 or 3 during the ENTIRE season. However, in my latest playoff series, there were 2 crashes in 3 games (once at home and once on the road). The result was that I lost both of those games. The bottom line is that, for owners, there is a lot of time, planning, effort and cost in playing a whole season and then to feel handicapped during a playoff series is tough to deal with and seems unfair. What about it...is it time for a change in the rules?
