I might agree with the thoughts on Hunter, but Ivan has always been rated higher than Piazza.

The game uses pitchers ratings as equally as catchers. It is a 50-50 proposition. Piazza with a staff that doesn't give up SB's will be average, same as Ivan with a poor staff. These are the rules, and calculations bear this out.

It should be noted that gold glove, fan votes, etc. come from highlite reels on sports center.

Our league uses stats, nothing else. For defense it is total chances (factored with parks, pitching staffs, etc) and zone rating. I can see some arguing for only zone rating, but until this would be modified (may not even be possible) we must accept the occasional aberation in defensive ratings.
