I disagree

While I agree with your points about why nonrated catchers is a weakness, it is not the biggest weakness in the game. Competetive balance is the biggest weakness in the game. I believe the problems with recruitting new owners into existing leagues stems (in part) from the fact that it is hard to get someone to pay money for a team that they know will not be competitive, much less a playoff contender, for at least two years. Add to that the fact that in most leagues, the best teams are all star teams and I wouldn't pay to rebuild any of the really bad orphaned teams.

I have my theories on how to fix that, such as cutting the number of players that can be kept to give FA picks more value, and capping the PB value that a team is allowed to have at the start of off season activities, but I suspect more existing owners would be against those changes instead of for them, even if it is the interest of restoring the game to healthier place.

The solution to position problem seems rather simple to me. Penalize those teams that use players in positions where the game code doesn't fix the problem. This can be done by stripping owners who violate the position rules of the wins that were acquired in that manner. (Ken your playoff situation seems to be an exception for the catcher dilema since I, like you, thought that INN players were exempt from the playoff limitations)

The solution to competitive balance does not seem to have such a simple solution, and is therefore, a much bigger issue in PB.
