Re: Draft Reprisals

I think a smart owner can work around some sort of cap on PB value (or however it is worked) because his ability to assess talent will prevail. At the same time it gives bad teams with smart owners have a reasonable chance to think they can win a championship and not get blown out by a traveling all star team when they do make the playoffs. I will shut up about legislating trades that have long term impact if caps are instituted because then the long term impact of deals lessens because owners with too much talent at the end of a season would be forced to trade or release some of it.

Your comments about owners with dominate teams being smart owners is absolutely correct. Those owners usually are very smart with their picks. I am not questioning that at all. Those same owners will thrive if they have limitations put on what they are allowed to carry over from year to year. What they won't have, however, is 3 all star pitchers and 7 or 8 all stars in their line up. That's bad for a league because then a lot of other owners get disinterested in the league.

I am obviously a baseball fan that thinks the Yankees are bad for baseball. Obviously, not everyone out there agrees because they think it's infringing on Steinbrenner's right to spend money as he sees fit. All I will say to that is that the NFL is thriving and baseball isn't. And I think the biggest difference between the two leagues is how they handle balanced playing field issues. If that is considered whining I guess I won't be missed by anyone when I leave PB, but I think the game will be missed if it unable to thrive under current conditions.
