I didn't imply anyone would be "good" behind the plate...only effective (meaning they could physically catch the ball, stop some balls in the dirt, possibly throw out a slow baserunner)...but nowhere near "good".
The only guys that might be good, or above average, behind the plate would likely be strong armed SS or 3B that are used to picking hot grounders off the dirt and firing to 1B with pure arm strength. My point was that just because they've never done it in real life doesn't automatically mean that they would be completely lost behind the plate and give up 5 passed balls per inning and a SB to everyone that reached.
