Some teams go with 4-man rotation for periods of time but NONE ever start a game with one catcher.

Even though many teams in PB go with 4 starters in some series, they almost always have 1-2 starters in reserve as long relievers or substitute starters should there be an injury.

As to having a Marrero on your roster, many MLB teams like having utility players who could be called upon to catch if the number one and two catchers were injured in a game. Mike Lamb and other such utility players have the ability to catch as an asset.
