Supposedly they kind of do this
Look at Glauss defensive rating at SS in the years in question. Its low...... if there is a problem its that the defensive ratings don't appear to have as much effect as they should.
However, I think we are getting a little bit too picky if we start insisting that every player plays the exact number of innings at each position in purebaseball that they played in real life. If the guy played there at all that ought to be enough to make them at least eligible at the position.
