Exactly
Just to reiterate my post down a few threads:
I enjoy Purebaseball alot because it's not predictable (like APBA, OOTP, Diamondmind, etc). It's not a replay league, and I don't think it ever will be. If we start having defensive usage, it's going to take alot of the game away from the home manager, and place more importance on being a paper champion.
I think the defensive system in place works just fine, with the exception of non-rated catchers being too good. Everything else should be left alone.
Sweeney came into the big leagues as a catcher, and did a decent job at it (better defense there, than at 1B), but the Royals roster situation forced him to 1B in '99. To suggest that in '99 he would only be allowed to play 4 games behind the plate (like he did in real life) would be stupid. Even today, he could hold is own as a catcher, but the Royals don't need him back there, so we don't get to use him there in the Purebaseball world.
Glaus: The past 3 seasons, Glaus has played SS for a handful of games..which is enough to give him defensive stats there and a Purebaseball defensive rating. All three years those ratings have been horrible, because he was horrible there in real life. Those ratings should be enough to deter his use there as a primary SS, and I think outside of the catching position, the ratings work fairly well.
Once again, this isn't a replay league, let's not try and make it one please.
