Whatever the date lets make sure that the season, playoffs included, doesn't run into the December holidays. The most important games of the year shouldn't be crammed into a hurried schedule if we can help it. That would mean getting the rookie draft done the week of 3/11 and the FA draft the next week and then a start quickly after that.
