**sigh**
Okay look.... I can't say this any more simply for those who are having trouble.
There exists in this league players who will try to offer old decrepid former all-stars to newbies in the hopes of stealing away two or more future all-stars. They do this by hoping that the newbie does NOT fully know baseball and does NOT fully understand what they have.
Now, in your example I'm assuming that you are trading a fully HEALTHY all-star for 2 rookies. There is no problem with that. BUT WOULD YOU TRADE TWO OR THREE AMAZING YOUNGSTERS FOR SOMEONE WHO MIGHT HIT .250 NEXT YEAR WITH 12 HOMERUNS SIMPLY BECAUSE HE WAS A FORMER ALL-STAR??!??!
My guess is NO. BUT there are some newbie WHO WOULD. What I am saying is that when Mike sees a trade like that, he SHOULD step in an explain to the rookie...
"heh... you know that Mr. X played in only 50% of the games last year and might retire after the year is out?"
If you don't agree with me, than can I trade you RICKEY HENDERSON for JOSH PHELPS and ERIC HINSKE? Henderson is a hall of famer you know...
(did I make is simple enough this time?)
