McGwire/Sosa

Posted By Dan

In a recent launch league I traded McGwire, Jose Lima, Rick Helling, RIcky Gutierrez, and Tony Phillips for Tony Clark, Kenny Rogers, Daryl Kile, Omar Vizquel, Troy O'LEary, and Quilvio Veras. Worked out great for me, not so great for the other team.

For another example, in a realtime league, I traded 3 first round rookie picks and Bobby Smith for Chipper Jones. There's some additional context in perpetual and launch leagues, of course: I already had an abundance of very young players and prospects and really needed a good LH bat.

I think it comes down to what you need in the context of your particular league. I have 2 realtime drafts coming up, and am having trouble deciding how to value pitchers on a look-forward basis. After all, how predictable are any starters outside the top handfull? In launch leagues pitchers seem to go well before hitters with the same PB-values...don't think it will be so in realtime.

Good luck on trading, hope these examples helped.
