In the "golden age of baseball" MLB teams were lucky to draw one million and that was when there were 7 levels of minor league ball and everyone in the majors knew the fundementals--but only a handful threw 90 mph... or worked out in the off-season... or had decent coaching... or had ever heard of on base percentage...
I do not know what this has to do with contraction though. While I think 20 team leagues are fine, there is little doubt that 24- team leagues are better because they force you to use and appreciate those .190 hitting bums.
And by the way---give me an Orioles-Tiger game any day over American Idol or some other such nonsense. If baseball is that bad maybe purebaseball should fold up its tent.
