2 cents from a new owner
I'm relatively new to the perpatual community but I thought I would offer my 2 cents.
It seems to me as many have posted that leaving star players in the minors for extended periods
of time does not show the best sportsmanship.
However I can think of instances where having someone in the minors for a short time makes
sense. On one of my teams my two highest graded starting pitchers pitched 112 and 141 innings
respectively in 1998. I assure you that if these guys remain on my roster all season that these
innings will all get used. But I figure I have a right to decide when they will be used. Right now
I am alternating them from one weak to another to stay near the correct pace. But at some point
if I find myself out of the race it may make sense to start "conserving usage" for future trade.
If I don't trade them in time then I will bring them back up and use all their innings and no harm
is done. If I do trade them then perhaps I will get something that will help my team more next year.
Another situation is injuries. I have one part time player that really creams the ball but I have left
him down on the farm so far because I anticipate needing to use him when some of my regular hitters get
injured. And the state of my roster is such that it really doesn't make sense to carry him on the active
roster if he is not starting (i.e. I use most of my bench hitters in platoons, but I am saving this guy
for when others get hurt... because I have guys like Kent, Karros, Giles that will get hurt at some point)
Again .... the part time player in question will get all his usage before the end of the year.
