Enough with your theories. Velardi was a pretty player. Cook wasn't a bad reliever either. Triple the talent of the 70's? Tigers starting lineup for 2003. Higgenson .255, Young.250 Santiago .234, Monroe .233, Halter .221, Infante .216, Pena .208, Inge .147, Palmer .140. Boy is that good baseball or what? Your economic excuse is invalid. By your own figures, attendance increased during some of the worst economic times in this country. And yes, in my opinion the 70;s and 80's were much better than now. Sure you had .190 hitters. But there wasn't so watered down and the ball sure wasn't as alive as it was now. Of yeah, not to mention the small diminsions of many of these new parks. Baseball average attendance is more than it was in the 70's, your right. but you have many more teams and 89 million more people in this counrty than in 1970.
Once again and for the final time, if you enjoy watching bad baseball, more power to you. Baseball attendance may be up from the 70's, but it is slowly doing a nose dive for the past two years. As Marlins executive said. Bad weather and BAD BASEBALL are keeping the fans away.
