Way more people watch the O's in Baltimore now---even after attendence has plummeted due to their poor play---than ever watched the great Earl Weaver teams of the late 60's and 70's. You can look it up!
Also attendence is WAY up since the 70's!
Yes it is down now but all sports and indeed almost all forms of entertainment are suffering currently.
Baseball is no longer the national pastime but it is still mine and I am glad I am not alone.
Unfortuantely baseball has seen a decline just as civility and education have declined and gambling and made for gambling sports like the NFL have seen an upward spike.
Also, and at the risk of being politically incorrect, half the attendees at Super Bowl parties do not understand the finer points of the game---but then what is so all-fired hard to get about the typical goal oriented game?
Is it only coincidence that so much has been written about the beauty and headiness of baseball and so little about the "GRUNT" sports?
