I really don't consider this a workaround solution to a bug. The robot worked as it was supposed to. If this was changed as you suggest it should be... I don't think it would be long before we would see complaints about the best available starter not being selected by the robot. The rules for robot starting pitcher selections are clearly laid out in the manual and are quite reasonable imo.
