I believe if you set your pitching staff to have only two or three starters the game will override the 4 inning/4 run rule if necessary to make sure the starter will have enough BFA to make his next start. Game should probably require at least 4 starters be identified (just as two short relievers are required) though that could screw up getting by with three starters in the playoffs. I believe this is the scheme used in the 2000RT2 playoffs mentioned above. Since Lowe was obviously the highest ranked reliever he would always be used by the game when ready.
