Loretta v. Kearns Trade
Sometimes there is more than just player v. player comparissons in these trades, especially in RT.
I was not party to this trade, made in 2000 RT2.
But I feel it breaks down to this: The Ridgers had Loretta and Giles at 2B, and at the time of the trade, Loretta had not playes SS.
The Ridgers have a good offensive team with many options for DH. In short, Loretta's good season was wasting away in relative inactivity.
Carbon Canyon, the Team that traded for Loretta has a slew of INN infielders, especially at 2b, is currently only six games out of their division and four in the WC, so trading away an injured young OF with promise for a good proven contact hitter seems odd, but when you consider that both teams are trying to win now, and Loretta was languishing on the Ridgers bench, why not move him? I feel the trade helped Carbon Canyon improve today. Sometimes sacrifices have to be made and being RT, if you have a shot now you better go for it.
Kearns is essentialy about worn out for RT, and his numbers are down this year anyway. Carbon Canyon is a savvy owner, and wants to be as competitive as possible, so why not?
