Last year Smoltz started off horrbly. he ahd a coyuple bad outings and that skewed his stats for the year. In actuality, he was unhittable for the alst two thirds of the season.

I made a post regarding a change along these lines (either breaking the season into thirds or at least halves to better reflect streaky preformance) earlier this year. It was pretty m,uch pooh-poohed. In all honesty, considering the state of the game, with deadlines going unmet as it is - it seems unrealistic to increase the burden of work.

While the idea has merit ( at least in my eyes) I doubt it would be effectively pulled off.
