Proposed Winter Leagues
I'm well aware that my proposed Winter leagues would play into June or July. I said so in my original post. Playing the last 2-3 months of the season with out-of-date stats would be better than starting the season with out-of-date stats, as current Trad leagues do.
I wasn't complaining about the late start to RT leagues, but since you brought it up, it was another example of why I'm sick of RT leagues. It was another deadline missed.
Once the season finally started, the commish suddenly announced that the order for the first monthly FA draft would be set after one week's worth of games. So, if you had a good team with a bad first week, like my team in 2000RT1, you got a much better draft pick than you deserved, and if you had a weak team that got lucky in week 1, like my team in 98RT3, you got screwed out of a good player you needed in order to compete. The commish can't live up to any of the deadlines on the schedule, so I'm getting out of RT once the season ends.
As someone else observed, many leagues are burned out right now. Many owners can't even be bothered to play their games or respond to trade offers. These Winter leagues would allow people to start fresh when their Trad or RT teams have nothing left to play for. They would also allow owners to participate in a formation draft for the first time since 2000!
The main advantage over RT leagues is that owners wouldn't have to spend Tuesday and Wednesday checking the site for a stat update that doesn't come until five minutes before games are turned on Thursday afternoon.
They'd be also be less work than RT leagues, both for owners and the commish. They'd be a Trad league for people who want more up-to-date stats, plain and simple.
There hasn't been a single response expressing interest in this third type of league, so maybe there's no chance it'll happen, but it was an idea worth mentioning.
