Thanks but..
No thanks.
I never said "I'm so insuted, I'll never deal with you again..." to anyone. In fact, Dave and I have completed several deals in the past but I will surely not make any future offers to Dave without checking into the availability of a guy on Dave's roster as well as Dave's opinion on guys I plan on offering to him. Some owners are fine with getting offers without prior emails and working with them while others are not. I made the mistake this time, but evidently broke some unwritten rule in Dave's mind that would cause him to declare foul. That's fine but I don't plan on doing it a second time is all I'm saying.
As for making a "real" offer. I already did that although it wasn't received as such. I'm certainly not going to throw Peavy and Baldelli and/or Byrd out there with my #1 rookie pick to get Colon. That would be nonsense. Only the Boston Red Sox would make a deal like that. Colon would be a nice add to my team but I certainly don't view him as being that valuable and am not desperate. Some owners will trade one good proven player to get 2-3 promising prospects, (I would do it if I were playing for next season) while others want something proven in return. I'm offering prospects. If I need to offer proven players, why bother, I'll just use the proven players I already have.
My only reason for responding to Dave's post was to claim that the offer came from me and that I wasn't embarassed to say so. I have received offers I didn't like in the past and sometimes tried to work with them and sometimes just rejected them but never felt that it was necessary to take a shot at the person making the offer just because I wasn't interested in what was being offered.
So, thanks for you interpretation of the situation, but I think I'll pass.
