I think it is a silly rule. They should just fix it so that if you play someone unqualified at catcher the penalties are draconian in errors and passed balls -- just like SS and CF. Actually, that is what I thought happened, though I do remember some discussion of noncatchers doing okay back there.

I had a few instances one year of running out of catchers, and I rememeber getting a bunch of errors.
