For many, many decades there has been a rule in baseball that betting on a game where you have a duty to perform results in a LIFETIME BAN.

I used to be a little sympathetic and think that MAYBE the guy deserved another chance. But his attitude (still no remorse) and the timing of his book have convinced me that in fact he is a slimeball and there is no reason to go lenient on him.

I think that when he dies perhaps the veterans committee could consider him if they feel it is warranted. But I think his crime and lack of remorse or reform is worthy of the LIFETIME BAN. There is no reason to allow Rose to profit from election or removal of the ban.
