CAP Again - Vigilance
Beware of false profits bearing gifts! Now that the realization of a cap has hit many of the managers (and most of them display and/or follow very closely what is discussed on this board) they are or will begin to react.
I applaud each and every one of them for building teams that manage to dwarf most others with PB values of 110-125 (and more in a few cases). However, that said we must be vigilant of why we asked for a cap to be installed. It was to stop so many of these mega teams and hopefully create some parity.
I will be one of the continuing voices for some degree of parity because I think it can only help PB.
Watch out for that trade that offers you the 35+ aging player with a good last season, or the one year wonder for your #1 FA pick. If it makes sense for your team to make the trade, e.g., it might get you into the playoffs, and then do it. But, if it will not in your opinion get you playoff bound, then don’t make the trade. If a team with a PB of 115, for example, can dump two or three either over-the-hill or career year players and pick up two or three first round FA picks then that team will be right back up to 115 or over at the end of the draft.
Maybe that’s okay; and maybe there is nothing that can be done about it; and if so then we probably don’t need the cap anyway.
Let’s see what happens.
