Bullpen setup advice.

Posted By KenG

This is an area that needs improvement, maybe we can see something change this year(at least in the instruction manual). Here is some advice to maximize what we have to work with.

If I have 4 good relievers, I'll not use a closer. I put two guys at middle relief, and two guys at short relief. This insures that a quality guy is pitching in important situations no matter what.

If I have 5 good relievers, with one that is really good, I'll add this really good reliever as my closer.

If you want your starter to stay in a little longer, even if he's not pitching well, make sure your long relievers have a max batters faced of 6-8.

Short relievers try to use lefty/righty advantages, thus the best short reliever might not be used.

Closers come in for save situations.

A 3 man starting staff will get your starters pulled sooner(even before the 4 inning rule at times).

Middle relievers are usually used when you are 3 runs ahead or behind.
