Trade Valuation Opinions -- Boy they vary widely

Posted By Tim A.

One of the facts of life in an environment like this one is that people will have wildly different opinions of player values. In many ways this is what makes the game so much fun. Although at other times, especially in extremely competitive situations, differences in player opinions can lead to lots of frustration, ulcers, etc.

For example in one league I had three good 2B (Marcus Giles, Jose Vidro, Mark Loretta) going into the offseason and I tried to offer one up for a good pitcher or a good outfielder. The only thing close to a bonafide offer (IMO) that I received to date was for Loretta and I took it reluctantly.

Now its possible that I just have a warped opinion of what a Vidro or a M. Giles is worth.

I have also learned this off-season that there are at least 25 different pitchers that rank among the top 10 pitchers in baseball.

What I would like to do is just throw out some players that have been mentioned in various discussions this offseason and get some opinions.

I do get frustrated at times when trying to make trades... but I will try my best to not get (overly) emotional in this discussion and to not identify the trading partners in these deals if others will also extend the same courtesy. My intent is to gather information on perceived market values of players.
