Outfield Defense vs . Offense. Does anyone know how to decide?
I'm wondering what the thoughts are about the tradeoffs of offense vs. defense. Lets start in the outfield.
On one team I have the following options for my three OF slots plus my DH slot (against RHP):
Player........ / Pos / ODR / Range / Arm / FldPct / OPS vs. RHP
----------------------------------------------------------------
Chipper Jones.... - LF - 2.0 - 0.9 - 5.0 - 0.968 - 0.951
Brian Giles...... - LF - 4.3 - 2.7 - 6.0 - 0.984 - 0.973
Brian Giles...... - CF - 4.4 - 4.0 - 6.0 - 1.000 - 0.973
Marlon Byrd...... - CF - 4.4 - 5.0 - 5.0 - 0.984 - 0.781
Mark Kotsay...... - CF - 8.3 - 8.7 - 8.8 - 0.991 - 0.759
John Vander Wal.. - RF - 4.2 - 3.0 - 4.0 - 0.988 - 0.865
Jose Vidro.......- DH? ........................... 0.847
Clearly Chipper Jones and Brian Giles belong in the lineup somewhere. And John Vander Wal looks like the best option in RF.
But should that last starting spot go to Mark Kotsay... which means an alignment of
LF- B. Giles, CF- Kotsay, RF- VanderWal, DH- C. Jones
or should that last starting spot go to Jose Vidro ... which means an alignment of
LF- C. Jones, CF- B. Giles, RF- VanderWal, DH- J. Vidro
What do you guys think? I could really use some guidance on quantifying def
