Infield in and Held on
I think you are right - that infield in does nothing other than maybe illiminate DPs. You usually get the routine throw to first as the runner scores.
I also think that holding the runner on does nothing. I've actually picked guys off a couple of time when I wasn't even holding them on. If the pitcher threw over, it should have gone into the duggout.
It seems that many of the tactical nuances supposedly don't work. Bullpen controls are backward and go bazerk if you change them. You don't dare adjust the baserunning or Thome will get picked off 2nd base with nobody out in the 9th and you're down by two. Holding on and IF in do nothing. Does anybody play the lines?
