I've noticed that it makes a difference. I've played a very large number of home games, and seen the effects for both the computer and myself. Many a time the runner has been thrown out at home.
If you have a very good SS and 2B, try just having the corners up when men on 1st and 2nd.
Oh, and by the way, the was a slower bouncer with the runner leaving on contact, scoring easily. No throw necessary at home.
