Arod to 3B hurts more
In general.... Since shortstops are harder to replace than second basemen I think that Arod moving from SS to 3B hurts more than moving Soriano from 2B to CF.
But specifically.... I think you really have to look at things on a case by case basis... a team that already has a replacement for one or the other may not feel pain...
Specific teams can be affected differently depending on the subsequent moves they have to make.
Examples of situations that may not be the norm.
I remember 2 or 3 years ago Chipper Jones moved from 3B to LF and it caused me some pain in two leagues.
In one league I was faced with the possibility of having four corner outfielders and no 3B or CF (my CF had been Trot Nixon and Brian Giles and I didn't expect either to be a long term solution at CF). In that league I let the lack of a 3B cause me to make a bad trade (although it didn't look as bad to me at the time).
In the other league I got through initially Fernando Tatis ..... and in mid-season I made a big deal to acquire Tejada and played him out of position at 3B. In that league I played all year last year with Tejada at SS and Alex Rodriguez at 3B. As recently as last week I was trying to trade Tejada for a top 3B .... now it looks like I get to have Arod and Tejada on the left of my infield for the next 7-10 years. In that case the pain of Chipper moving to LF caused me to inadvertantly solve the Arod problem before it ever existed (of course the presence of Tejada and Arod caused me to give Angel Berroa away for a song last year... but thats the subject of another thread).
