Baseball Econ

Posted By Don Hearne

Steinbrenner does what other owners refuse to do, put money into his team & win. Teams are owned by successful businessmen & corporations. When they purchase a baseball team, the secrets of making money aren't suddenly lost on them. In the words Arnold "Open the books". The Brewers extort a $413 mil ballpark from the city then renege on their promise to build a competitive team. The owners are liars. Like a Hollywood studio, Forrest Gump makes $660 mil at the box office & loses money. Using Enron accounting methods allows teams to make concession, luxury-box, parking, etc. money disappear. George spends the money they are pocketing. Finally, consult 4/15/01 Forbes magazine for a truer picture of baseball's finances.
