Agreed to much of that
You said "We only play with 20 or 24 teams so having players with lots of at bats doesn't quite mean the same. We can platoon, we have deep benches."
Which is one reason the PB values emphasis on PA & IP is overstated.
As for Kent being downgraded for Houston, I know the manual says that occurs; but I'm not seeing it. I know I had Helton hit over .400 for me one season and Denny Stark (2002 stats)gave up about 125% of the actual HR's he gave up in Colorado (and he gave up a lot in Colorado in 2002).
I know that is anectdotal but it sure makes one wonder. No doubt if you have Colorado as your home field in PB your hitting stats get elevated and pitching staffs hurt at home...but...I don't see Colorado hitters being downgraded or Colorado pitchers being upgraded when they are on teams not playing at Coors.
Last year Kent hit .297 for me...let's see...his actual stats at Houston were he hit... .297! PB is an amazing SIM!!! Of course he also hit 41 doubles for me vs 39 at Houston but only 11 HR vs 22 at Houston so the perfection goes out the window. (My park is StL).
Helton this year:
avg 2b hr
Coors .358 49 33
StL .328 52 27
park:
Coors 121 118 142 (LH)
StL 98 96 112 (LH)
so projected Coors to StL
.289 39 26
I guess the HR weren't so far off.
I don't grab Colorado pitchers if I can help it because I don't think the SIM adjusts for them.
Just as another example...
Shawn Chacon in the same league:
Coors actual stats:
ERA Hits/9 inn IP/HR K/IP
4.60 8.15 11.41 .678
vs PB
4.81 10.21 6.39 .521
I'm not seeing an adjustment...especially for pitchers.
