Park Adjustments

Posted By Matt S

I agree with your observation. It seems pretty clear to me that the sim is NOT adjusting based on the actual home park of the player. I base this mostly on what I have seen from Colorado players, as Coors is clearly the most extreme park. In particular, if the sim were making that adjustment, you'd expect to see Chacon and Speier (last year) being completely dominant, which did not occur.

Frankly, this makes sense to me. I think it would be very difficult for us to value players if we did not see their "real" stats when drafting, trading and setting lineups. (It is one thing to know that, if you're going into Coors, all of your pitchers will be of diminished effectiveness and all your hitters will be better. It's another thing to look down a list of stats and remember "OK he played in Philadelphia, which has a 120 LH HR rating, so that 30 homers is acutally only 24, wheras this guy played in Detroit, so his 25 homers are really 32" and so on . . . yikes.) It would, theoretically, be possible to do the park adjustment and show the park adjusted stats, but that also is not happening.

Mike, any authoritative word here?
