Survey: Top 10 Middle Infielders
Now that Alex Rodriguez is moving from SS to 3B I'd like to hear everyone's opinions on who the top middle infielders in the game are.
Assuming that you could hand pick your middle infield for your purebaseball team and you were interested in contending every year for the next five years who would you want to have?
I suggest the following list.... I'm curious how other people evaluate the talent at SS and 2B.
My top 10
----------------
Name (Age) - Pos - Team
--------------------------------
1.) Nomar Garciaparra (30) - SS - Boston
2.) Edgar Renteria (29) - SS - St. Louis
3.) Derek Jeter (29) - SS - Yankees
4.) Alfonso Soriano (28) - 2B - Texas
5.) Miguel Tejada (27) - SS - Baltimore
6.) Jose Vidro (29) - 2B - Montreal
7.) Marcus Giles (25) - 2B - Atlanta
8.) Brett Boone (34) - 2B - Seattle
9.) Jeff Kent (36) - 2B - Houston
10) Rafael Furcal (26) - SS - Atlanta
Honorable Mention
---------------------
HM) Angel Berroa (26) - SS - Kansas City
HM) Orlando Cabrera (29) - SS - Montreal
HM) Luis Castillo (28) - 2B - Florida
HM) Ray Durham (32) - 2B - San Francisco
HM) Jose Reyes (20) - 2B - NY Mets
HM) Michael Young (27) - SS - Texas
For this study I did not including Alex Rodriguez because he is moving to 3B, and I did not include Kaz Matsui because noone has seen him play in the big leagues yet. Jeff Kent and Brett Boone are obviously very productive but I knocked them down a few spots because of their age.
What do other people think?
