All About Perspective

Depending on the point of view that one was trying to support, it would be easy to make a case for either side of the equation being stronger. That's why you can't get 2 managers in PB to hardly agree on anything. You made yours, so now here's mine. Renteria is a premier SS but lacks power, Glaus is a good 3B but had a bad season last year due to a bum shoulder (will it recur this season?), Millwood is a solid No. 2 or 3 SP but has only had an ERA under 4.00 once in the last 3 years, Eaton is another No. 3 or 4 SP but had Tommy John surgery and still has not cracked an ERA of 4.00. Kim is like a man without a country, where do you play him and his head may be so messed up now that he never comes around. I don't think it is a guarantee that he will be in Boston's rotation this year. Erubiel Durazo is a DH/1B with usually a .260 BA and less than 20 HRs, not that impressive. Durham not that young anymore and injuries starting to catch up to him.

For the flip side, let's pull all the positives on the departing players. Pedro with 3 straight years of sub-2.40 ERA and years still left in the tank, current AL Batting Champ Bill Mueller with last seasons .326 BA and hitting in a monster line-up, Cesar Izturis is a defensive whiz at SS who should have a Gold Glove, LaTroy Hawkins is a fantastic set-up man who can give you 75 IP with 75 K and an ERA under 2.00 and a Whip of about 1.00, Mariano Rivera has only averaged 40 saves with an ERA slightly over 2.00 with a Whip of 1.00 for the past 3 years, Roger Clemens with 300+ wins and still 2 years of PB left, Rafael Palmeiro is like the Energizer Bunny who just keeps going and going and can get 40 HR and 100 RBI seasons in Baltimore with that line-up around him, and finally David Riske who last year had 75 IP with 82 K and a Whip of 0.964 and might be the closer in Cleveland this year.

So, back to the original point...you can make the case either way which side got the slightly better deal BUT you can't make the case that the Managerless Team is Significantly better off especially in Draft Picks for any New Talent coming up which I thought was the one of the main points of MLESS trades to begin with.
