OK, Let's Look

I'm slightly confused because you open your argument saying that superstars should not be traded off of MLESS teams but then you promptly trade Mueller, Rivera, Clemens, and Palmeiro and maybe Pedro. Anyhow, lets look at last year stats for these players as another comparison...projecting 5 years down the road is absolutely useless since too many unknowns (injuries, real-life trades, etc. can happen on a year-to-year basis). Besides, the Commish is not managing the MLESS teams forever right, just until a New Manager takes over. So here are some stats:

Martinez (14 Wins & 2.22 ERA for 187 IP) vs. Renteria (.330 AVE & 13 HR with 100 RBI)
Mueller (.326 AVE & 19 HR with 85 RBI) vs. Glaus (.248 AVE & 16 HR with 50 RBI)
Izturis (.251 AVE & 1 HR with 40 RBI) vs. Durham (.285 AVE & 8 HR with 33 RBI)
Hawkins (9 Wins & 1.86 ERA for 77 IP) vs. Eaton (9 wins & 4.08 ERA for 183 IP)
Rivera (40 Saves & 1.66 ERA) vs. Millwood (14 Wins & 4.01 ERA for 222 IP)
Clemens (17 Wins & 3.91 ERA for 212 IP) vs. Byung Kim (8 Wins & 3.18 ERA for 79 IP)
Palmeiro (.280 AVE & 38 HR with 112 RBI) vs. Durazo (.259 AVE & 21 HR with 77 RBI)
Riske (8 Saves & 2.29 ERA for 75 IP) vs. Round 2 Rookie

We can banter this back and forth endlessly. Based on the above, I would be hard pressed to take the entire right side as you suggest. As I intitially proposed, I view it as a push between the two sides. And if that's true, then the only real improvement may have been in some of the Managed teams and NOT the MLESS teams. That said, I still like MLESS trades...I just think that wholesale team changes and Superstar trades need to be limited in the future! My final point is that since these trades were made, the MLESS team in this case should have acquired the players it did AND several No. 1 Rookie and FA picks. The trades should have COST Managed teams more!
