I did better in the short term..but much worse in the long ter

It was a sacrifice I was willing to make because I want to win this year... and because I believe Konerko will bounce back for me next year.

But lets be clear... in 2005 Clemens will be gone, Palmeiro may be done, and who knows what Riske will be.

Assume that Clemens is retired in 2005.
Ramon Castro may be a regular catcher by then.

So it probably will look like

Durham - 34 year old starting 2B
Durazo - 31 year old starting 1B
Castro - 28 year old starting C

for

Palmeiro - 41 year old part time DH
Riske - 29 year old reliever of unpredictable value

In 2005 this trade will hurt me considerably (based on the assumption that Giles keeps doing well and I would have traded Durham for something useful). But I made the sacrifice to help me in 2003. This particular trade looks to help the unmanaged team in the long run.
