Lawrence is always a better prospect - Hernandez delivered

Posted By DaveF

First...I think the trade should have been approved. An FA #1 in a TRAD league can be pretty valuable and Hernandez is nothing if not inconsistent.

Just to look at things from another viewpoint though admittedly with different values than might apply in PB.

The "Fanatasy Baseball Guide" dollar predictions vs dollar actual for Fantasy type values - I realize these don't translate directly to PB but for pitchers they perhaps aren't that unrelated:

       predicted $$$ earned $$$
2002 2003 2004 2001 2002 2003
Lawrence $7 $9 $10 $7 $9 $10

Hernandez $0 $6 $0 $12 $0 $24

I have to say this doesn't make a lot of sense to me as Hernandez had a better year in 2002 than in 2001 but then I don't understand the values in Fantasy leagues that well. Perhaps the 2002 earned is wrong for Livan or maybe going 13-15 with a 5.64 ERA is better than going 12-15 with a 4.37 ERA (K's almost identical)?

But...just like in PB the consensus seems to be that Lawrence is worth more although Livan usually outperforms him and has great stats for the current year. Hernandez just doesn't get any respect.

I'd take Hernandez though and let you guys keep drooling over Lawrence's "potential". Of course, if that FA pick is a high one the deal swings the other way as there are a few very nice players available in most FA leagues. That's why I think the trade should have been approved - it could go either way. But I NEVER get a high FA pick so I wouldn't count on that.
