PB value isn't really very important either. You need to look at how the player will perform for your team. Offensively it means looking at their lefty righty splits. You will need to put together lineups against both sides. You face more righties though. Pitchers you look at the same thing -- a very good roto pitcher who just gets killed by one side (for example lefties) will not be very valuable as opposing managers will stack their lineups against him. Real life wins are meaningless. ERA is not as important as the splits, as they will govern how he does in the game. Scarcity of talent is important just like in roto. Defense is very important too. Also, certain positions are more valuable than others -- like SS, C and CF -- as only guys who qualify at those positions can play well there, while other positions can be played by multiple guys (for instance a 1st makes a pretty good corner OF) also.

Hope this helps. I am sure other folks can give you better info.

The roto like aspect of the game is that, assuming you plan to keep your team for several years -- which is really the fun of the game -- you want to get guys who are going to have long term value if possible.
