Keep in mind this trade was made before the draft order was announced- it wouldn't look as bad if the pick had come out lower.
The same 2 teams also recently completed this one:
Arizona gave up Bartolo Colon for "unmanaged" Rocky Mountain RK#1. Now Colon is a great pitcher-- but that RK#1 was the FIRST pick in that draft. Arizona used it to pick Brandon Webb. Would the unmanaged team rather have Colon or Webb?
You can argue whether these trades make sense for the unmanaged team. But they clearly are not "unreasonable" and on that basis alone there is no reason to question them.
However, I feel there is another side to this that should be taken into account. The managed team, Arizona, is an extremely strong team and has had the best or second best PV and record in this league for the past several yrs. They had to work to get under the cap this year. They are a good example of why PB needs a cap. This league has very, very little trading (in part due to this team's history- more on that later).
THESE TRADES MADE ARIZONA STRONGER.
What was the "spirit" of the rules for trading with unmanaged team? What was the point of making league commisioner's again?

As most of you know I have "beat this dead horse" before-- and yes it has been "reviewed" by commisioner:Mike (aka no action taken)-- but for those of you that havn't seen it, are bored, curious- take a look at the PB 98 T2 Arizona team trade history. Note that in addition to the Hall of Fame acquisitions and somewhere in the midst and confusion of the same players being traded for each other 5-6 times in multiple 10+ payer deals, Arizona has had the very first pick in the RK draft 3 of the past 4 yrs (Wood, Furcal, Webb) despite having the best/second best record/PV in the league the preceeding years.
Then ask yorself- is it a coincidence those managers within the year of trading with Arizona resigned their teams and disappeared? That some of these gutted teams remain unmanaged? That this league despite having several excellent managers never seems to turn the corner to being active and healthy?
But who am I to throw stones- since I just traded in my stadium for another one for no other reason than it gave this years version of my team a better chance to win. Of course, any other team is free to do the same- and it ain't Brandon Webb or Kerry Wood but it's all I got...
