Two thoughts on RT drafts
I agree that weighting the draft towards the poorer teams is fair, however I have two questions.
One, after a team is placed in one of the four sections by record (with PB value the tie-breaker for inclusion) will it still be random within this group as to order? I'd like there to be a limit to a team always picking first in the draft. I realize in "real" baseball that players go through the waiver wire in order of record (worst to best), but in this league teams could too easily follow a strategy of building for next year at the expense of this year from the start of the season if they knew they would pick first all season long.
Two, will the PB values used for tie breaking and ordering be computed before or after teams make their cuts? Teams could manipulate this if the value is after the cuts are made by dumping players of "high value" due to innings or PAs (as compared to good numbers) to get that prized rookie that finally got to 150 ABs.
Aside from the current changes, for next year would it possible to force cuts to be made a week before the draft (but let the players stay with their teams for the games) so cut players could be included in the draft list? Also how does usage work for cut players? Since it isn't included in the info on the player I assume usage for a cut and then re-selected player returns to zero. This also seems to be a loophole, as I could easily burn out a reliever who only has 10 innings, drop him, and try to pick him back up the next month "refreshed" even if he hadn't in real life pitched anymore. Maybe teams could be blocked from reacquiring a player they cut, or usage should stay with a player regardless of team (but would need to be known in the draft info). This is more an issue for next year, but figured I bring it up now...
