You can play a guy with a 0.1 rating and not have serious problems. In fact some guys with lousy ratings do surprisingly well.
HERE IS THE KEY THOUGH:
No matter what the rating of the player...
If the player has ZERO Putouts, he will perform attrociously - worse than if he had no rating at the position whatever.
Podsednik played in LF but had ZERO PO.
The last update to the game manual included this information which previously was only known from a Mike Bravard post on this forum. The manual now states though that:
NOTE 1 : Players who appeared at a position and are rated but did not field a chance are treated very harshly by the game - as if they were unrated or worse. DO NOT USE such players at those positions!
