OF fielding of 0.1

Posted By DaveF

Not all guys with a 0.1 fielding in the OF have ZERO CHANCES.

If someone has no chances, the game can't calculate a fielding percentage (zero divided by zero). Perhaps it then uses .750 as you suggest, but I think they may actually do much worse than that.

However, there are guys with a 0.1 fielding grade who DID have chances and in that case I'm pretty sure the game will use their actual fielding percentage.

In the FA list JJ Davis has a 0.1 fielding grade in RF (at least today) but an actual fielding pct in RF of .909. You could live with that, especially since his range in RF is 9.5. Personally I'd rather have a guy who gets to more balls even if he does make a few more errors. NOT guys with zero chances though.

A better example (because you can watch his actual performance during the TRAD season as his grade won't change) would be Jeremy Burnitz in TRAD leagues playing LF. Burnitz is a 0.1 fld pct grade in left but has fielding pct in left of .955. He made 81 putouts so no problem there. He has a range of 9 and arm of 6.1. I'd play him in left with no concern.

In 99TRAD2 for the Bristol Country Scarlett Knights Burnitz has played 73 innings in LF with 1 error and a fld pct of .941. My guess is over all leagues Burnitz will be closer to the .955 than the .750 for errors.

Bottom line...as long as a guy has at least one chance at a position, look at his actual stats to see if you want to use a 0.1 player.

DO NOT PLAY A PLAYER AT A POSITION WHERE HE PLAYED BUT HAD ZERO CHANCES. Play someone out of position before you play the zero chance guy.
