sorry but this is a cheap shot!

Not including all the specifics of the trade is a cheap shot in my view.

Here is the trade in Full:
Webb, Edgar Gonzalez, Blanco and #5 and #6 FA from UNM Gettysburg team in 99 RT5
for
Baldelli, Ohka, Harang, LaRue, #3 FA

The UNM team gets an upgrade at C when LaRue returns form DL.
It gets two starters and only had 4 before the trade. Both are regular rotation guys this year.
The FA upgrade is of some value. And the team needed a CF and Balfdelli is a quality player who will get better.

If Webb goes under the knife like many young pitchers do before they reach 27...then the trade is that much better.
All in all I thought it was a good gamble for the UNM team.

As to Prior and Puhols---I have told Dave F that both were mistakes and that I regretted tham---although in retrospect the package for Prior was pretty good.

Dave also ranted mightily about my allowing Rollins for Juan Uribe and a #1 FA. My argument was that Rollins was a Punch and Judy hitter and that Uribe if he reached his potential might be a better player. I was a bit lucky on that one but as the venerable PBer from NM always says: "luck is the residue of design".

All in all the UNM trade program has been a rousing success by most accounts---despite the fact that Prior and Puhols got traded.
It just goes to show you that in this game as in all human endeavors, you can never make everyone happy.
