Missing the point
"Quick word about unmnaged trades. Keep in mind that I do not want to let go of big names or sacrifice much youth on these teams which are being groomed for new managers. " - Mike Bravard forum post comment.
Apparently Webb is not a big name. Maybe he's not young either.
The problem I have is that I do not believe young superstars or apparent superstars should be traded off of MLESS teams for guys currently not in vogue as being superstars.
Agree with the evaluation or not, Pujols, Prior, & Webb look to me to be viewed as superstars.
If the same trade were made between managed teams, fine, it depends on how you want to gamble. If you are afraid Webb is going to "go under the knife", so you trade him for 2 pitchers with less chance they'll both get injured; well...strange reason for a trade but so be it.
Also, when you complain about me not listing the trade and then discuss a different one, you ought to at least get your facts straight. The Rollins trade was for Uribe & a #2 rookie NOT a #1FA. I don't know if in RT a #2 rookie is better, worse or the same as a #1FA in value; but that was the trade. The trade was made before the season when Uribe was rated a backup in Chi to Harris and Rollins was coming off a season with 42 doubles and 20 stolen bases. My complaint to Mike in an e-mail, was that it came immediately after Mike posted on this forum the quote that is at the top of this comment.
I fail to see how Mike's quote fits with his trade approval for Webb.
